In a recent interview, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs decried a shadowy group of individuals, known as the “professional left.” Though it reminds one of the idealistic days when Dan Quayle was Vice President, it paints a telling portrait of the mood in the Oval Office.
Gibbs prefers the amateur left
Liberals not yet entirely satisfied with Obama are the “professional left” that Press Secretary is likely referring to, though some are totally still amateurs. He said these people would only be happy with health care like Canada and with the Pentagon done away with, in an interview with The Hill. He also said that they were comparing Obama with George W. Bush, and that for doing this, they should all be “drug tested.” He maintained they would be impossible to please “even if Dennis Kucinich was President.”
Is Bigfoot one of them?
A lot of liberals and progressives were less than thrilled that he ditched the public option and has done little on LGBT issues. Some say the White House has not taken a proactive enough role in repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Still, just who exactly the “professional left” is supposed to be, it isn’t really clearly defined. The day the interview was published, Gibbs was noticeably absent from a White House press conference. Bill Burton, who filled in for Gibbs, says he was sick.
Not probably the most definitive of phrases
Though the exact demographic Robert Gibbs was lampooning was not entirely clear, what it was he objected to was clear. The fact is there’s just no pleasing some individuals and some people love having something to complain about.
